About the Festival

Presented by The Ministry For Fun ( a not-for-profit collaboration by Coochiemudlo Island businesses) and Brisbane record label 4000 Records, Coochiemudlo Island Festival is a grassroots endeavour that aims to bring communities together and celebrate life. Taking place in the enchanting Mudlo Gardens on the picturesque shores of Coochiemudlo Island, a short ferry ride from Brisbane city, punters are invited to leave the concrete jungle and their everyday worries behind and enter a well-kept secret island paradise.

A slower-paced, whimsical world awaits with a stacked line-up of Queensland talent taking to the stage. Leading the bill is one of the Gold Coast’s favourite sons and the ultimate King of Chill – Bobby Alu. Serving up a slice of thumping soul, funk and reggae inspired hits are co-headliners Chocolate Strings, while the remarkable Karl S. Williams will be delivering his signature fusion of blues, roots, folk and Americana with a twist. Fellow locals Adele & The Chandeliers, Ruby Gilbert, The Holy Rollercoasters and local island band Red Belly Black are also aboard, along with Brisbane surfgaze quartet, The Double Happiness, whose song Coochiemudlo inspired the creation of the festival.

Coochiemudlo Island • Yours To Experience

Yours to Experienc Coochie Festival
Mudlo Gardens Coochie Festival

Coochiemudlo Island is located in Redland City, to the east and only 45 minutes drive from Brisbane City centre. The island is home to approximately 700 residents. Check out how to get here

The island offers a quiet and laid-back lifestyle while still being able to easily access facilities and services on the mainland. Islanders often joke about going overseas when needing to leave the island. It’s a far cry from city living and one is able to easily connect with nature by stepping out on to the beach or going for a walk on traffic-free roads, where kids can still play and ride their bikes freely. Occasionally you may even find a donkey, goat and sheep out for their walk (on leads of course).

Our multi-faceted community and natural surrounds; the trees, the water, the light, the birds, the mostly quiet nights, the singing cicadas in summer and Stone Curlews at night make it a truly unique and special place to live. A lesser known spot we would much rather keep to ourselves, yet proudly share and warmly welcome you to experience.
